“Cultural Differences”
Culturally speaking west believes more on working and achieving goals individually. They feel
proud and happy for their achievements independently.
Mr. Ahmad was working as a “Manager” in a Multinational Software development Company
“Softronix” in USA. He used to distribute all the tasks among the employees individually.
Everyone was happy to work for the goals attainment of the organization and personal
fulfillments. The organization is one of the leading profit generators in USA. All the employees
were happy working with the organization under Mr. Ahmad’s supervision.
With this mind set and experience of USA, he was transferred to Japan, where emphasis is
given to working collectively. Collectivism is the main feature of eastern culture. Mr. Ahmad
adopted the same strategy in Japan and distributed the tasks individually. It was the point
where problems began. Gradually the productivity of the employees decreased, resulting in low
profits and difficulties in achieving the goals effectively and efficiently. The employees were
dissatisfied with the job and gradually turnover increased.
The top management of “Softronix” decided to find out the causes of Mr. Ahmad’s bad
performance despite of being a successful manager in USA.
Q.1: As CEO of the “Softronix” what reasons do you see for the poor performance in Japan?

considerations should Mr. Ahmad look at in order to assess the two totally different cultures?

Our business group manages about 200 projects per year, with each of them lasting anywhere from two to ten weeks. We’re disappointed with managing the project status with Microsoft Excel, as it’s not an elegant way to query the database for more useful sub-sets like “new projects”, or “projects that Fred is working on”, or “projects about customer satisfaction”.

Is there a free, password-protected web application that allows for simple project status management, without getting too complicated? Each project would only have about 10 fields to fill, such as:

* Start date
* Statement of work received
* Purchase order number
* Cost
* Vendor
* Key stakeholder(s)
* Project manager
* Current status (Design, Fielding, Reporting, Closed)
* Topic(s) addressed
* Summary of results
* Close date

Any solution has to be simple, or the internal managers are going to balk about having to learn yet another software application.

I would like to know what secondary education you pursued in order to get such jobs. I am in high school and i know what i want to do for a living, but don’t know what secondary education and certification i might need. What do you recommend?

I want to fix/build computers, maybe moving up to a network management position and maybe later in life starting a computer fixing/custom computer building store. I am really good for my age at both hardware and software- check some of my answers.

I would also like to know of a good part time job for a 16 year old (me) looking to get his foot in the door. Do you think a Best Buy/Circuit City Job would be good? Will they take part-time 16 year olds? Or should i start putting out ads and do some fixing jobs from home?

I’m currently working at a public charter school that is in it’s fourth year. Since it started small at 30 students, it didn’t start with a student information management system in place. However, now that there are 300+ students and 15+ teachers as well as 5+ administrators, it’s time to put together a database that’s easy to work with, customizable, and most importantly, has a friendly user interface.

Software must:
- Be able to run on the network so that any teacher can use his or her laptop to access the database
- Track attendance
- Track student discipline
- Have a ridiculously easy to use grade-book function so even teachers who aren’t comfortable with technology will have no trouble
- Great calendar program where teachers can see projects/trips planned by other teachers
- Automatically generate report cards complete with note of attendance
- Track state test scores of students from year to year

Software would be nice if it:
- Is compatible with both Windows Vista and Mac OSX

I want something simple just to keep track of room bookings on my computer but the only freeware I have found doesn’t seem to work!
